Will smartwatches be the next big thing?

Wearable technology has been on the rise for a few years but is 2015 the year that these devices will take centre stage?

The launch of the Apple Watch is fast approaching and because of this the interest of smartwatches has grown. Smartwatches act as an extension to your smartphone by allowing you to see who is calling you, look at recent text messages or check your calendar without having to use your phone. Although in the future it is thought that smartwatches will have their own applications and will not rely on smartphones.

Some watches will be able to track your activity including the number of steps taken throughout the day, your heart rate and then assess your level of fitness based on this information. Others will allow you to see train information such as times, platforms and may also allow you to buy or renew tickers using simple payment systems like Google Wallet or Apple Pay. Some watches may even allow you to gain access to buildings or allow you to control the lighting and heating within your home, all from your wrist!
