Are your ex-employees still accessing your data?
When an employee leaves your business what happens to your sensitive business information that they previously had access to? It doesn’t matter how big or small your business is – if you are employing staff which have access to apps and company information then your business may be at risk if you do not protect this data when they leave.
Ex-employees have actually admitted to using their login details even after they have left
the company. Generally this is just out of curiosity – ‘will my login details still work?’ No matter what the reason for logging back onto the system is it still only takes a small amount of malicious content to cause bigger problems. Therefore when an employee leaves your company you should have a method in place to prevent them having access to the system.
When taking on a new employee you should always be aware of the information they have access to so that you are able to disable these accounts or change the access details when they leave the company.
Dropbox, Google Drive and iCloud are also common within businesses and some employees have said to use this to store corporate files or to transfer them between devices. Is this something your employees do also? If you are unsure where your company information is being stored by each employee then maybe it is time to check so that you are prepared for the future.
